Casa África funds an area for creation and exchange of artists

From September 2011 to September 2012
Casa África financia la creación de espacios para artistas africanos

The  Greatmore Studios in Cape Town, South Africa, are a specialised cultural unit  offering residencies to national and international artists. They provide not only individual studios but also group workshops in an intercultural and multi-disciplined work environment.

They also have a small exhibition area where artists can exhibit their work once the residencies have finished. The Greatmore Studios are internationally known by artists and they work with emerging artists from different areas of South Africa.

Given the common goals and taking into account the privileged platform for the development of artistic creation that the Greatmore studios have become, Casa África has decided to sponsor one of its studios to guarantee continuity of some of the creative residencies already started by African artists.

Through funding this space for creation, Casa África hopes to strengthen its commitment in supporting creation in Africa, working at the same time with local members that manage and run the development of the specific project on the ground.

Contributions such as this one that Casa África makes allow artists such as Dathini Mzayoya, whose work is very committed and with a strong social content, to continue developing their work.

This first collaboration agreement is set up for a year, covering the period from September 2011 to September 2012.
