8th Iberian Conference on African Studies

The Group of African Studies will host the 8th Iberian Congress of African Studies (ICAS8/CIEA8). Titled 'Under the Palaver Tree: Resistance and Transformations Between the Local and the Global', the conference will take place in Madrid on June 14-16, 2012.
Organized by the African Studies Group of the Autonomous University of Madrid, ICAS 8 constitutes a new opportunity to create a meeting point for dialogue between the different trends of the increasingly rich and diverse African Studies.
An opportunity as well to promote and facilitate the relations and nexus between the research centres and teams that work in the Iberian peninsula, Africa and elsewhere.
In order to do that, they would like to invite researchers from Africa, Europe and other places to submit panel proposals to broaden the knowledge of the complex, multiple and diverse African realities, and in the understanding of the nature of its transformations and resistances, of the interconnections on the local, national, regional and global levels, as well as the varied accounts of the past and visions of the future that are being generated within African societies.
