Casa Árabe and Casa África celebrate Africa Day by presenting the key work of the Senegalese intellectual and historian Cheikh Anta Diop: Black nations and culture. The book, edited by Bellaterra and translated by Albert Roca, will be presented to the public this Thursday, 24th May at 19.30, at Casa Árabe (Calle Alcalá, 62. Madrid). The event will be attended by Cheikh Mbacké Diop, the author's son and who among other things devotes himself to defending his father's legacy, being a witness to and defending his message, which in this specific work tells us that Africa was already there at the beginning of what has now been called civilisation and therefore also forms part of, with its own voice, the future of the global village.

At the book's presentation we will have Abas Ndiour, dean of the African Group of Ambassadors and Ambassador for Senegal in Spain; Eduardo López Busquets, Casa Árabe's general director, and Santiago Martínez-Caro,  Casa África's general director. This event precedes the traditional meeting of Casa África's Diplomatic Council, made up from the African ambassadors in Spain and which will take place on the 25th May at 13:00 at the Palacio de Viana (Calle Duque de Rivas, 1. Madrid), under the presidency of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo. The meeting, with which Casa África usually celebrates Africa Day, will have the presence of representatives from the Ministry, Government of the Canary Islands and the Town Council of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria.

Black nations and culture is part of Casa África's History and Politics Collection, which aims to support editing texts that are integrated into the African Studies Library of Bellaterra Edicions. Through these titles, African cultural heritage will be disseminated in Spain so as to bring the Spanish public nearer to the legacy of African society's great thinkers. The collaboration of Casa África and Bellaterra is based on the translation and re-editing of the African thinkers' important titles, people who have meant so much to the African continent due to their political and cultural initiatives, such as is the case of, Joseph Ki-Zerbo, Kwame Nkrumah or Cheikh Anta Diop himself.
